The single art works are very admired by the children.

Archaeological panorama trail and legend trail - St. Lorenzen
2 h
170 hm

To hike the Archaeological Panorama Trail, walk uphill from the Zugbahnhof parking lot or village center along the Rienz river to the so-called Peintner Brücke bridge, cross underneath it and cross a pedestrian bridge to the start of the Panorama Trail. Follow the markings no. 5 to the "Archaeological Panorama Trail" junction. Always following the "ARCHEO" sign, you first come to a somewhat steep, short path, then flat and finally slightly uphill to the Sonnenburger Kopf, the highest point of the hike. Follow the ARCHEO signs along various information boards, mostly downhill through the forest towards Sonnenburg. You finally reach Fassinger Straße. Here you come to marker no. 17, which leads back to the starting point in the village center. The Sagenweg is a lovely walk through largely open terrain, with only one slightly steeper section. You start the walk at the train station in St. Lorenzen; if you arrive by car, it is best to choose the large parking lot at the market hall. First follow trail no. 1A along the railroad towards Brunico/Bruneck and then along a dirt road to the underpass of the Brunico/Bruneck southern bypass. Now turn right onto trail no. 12. The trail climbs briefly through forest to the highest point and then descends again into open terrain. Follow the old Stefansdorfer Straße (marker no. 4) back to the starting point.

SPECIAL FEATURES

A village that breathes history

St. Lorenzen and the surrounding area are places steeped in history and probably the most important archaeological site in the Puster Valley. A walk along the panoramic trail at the Sonnenburger Kopf reveals traces from the Iron Age and Roman times. 16 display and information boards along the way explain the various excavations - a lively and informative history lesson, if you will. At the same time, you can experience a piece of untouched nature and landscape as well as sweeping panoramic views from the specially created rest areas. After the hike, a visit to the Mansio Sebatum Museum is highly recommended, where many excavation finds are exhibited and a comprehensive insight into the millennia-old history of the place is offered. Since summer 2017, Sankt Lorenzen has been enriched by an attractive tour, the Legend Trail. Pupils from a primary school class in St. Lorenzen turned an idea by Peter Ausserdorfer - currently director of the Mansio Sebatum Museum - into reality; ten legends set in St. Lorenzen were turned into pictures. In a three-month project, they studied the legends and then "captured" them in pictures and added texts that correspond to the content of each legend. Some of the works are quite astonishing and well worth a look.
